Who can benefit:

Small to medium-sized manufacturers, located in the Sacramento Regional Recycling Market Development Zone (SRRMDZ), who make a product out of a Recycled Content Feedstock (RCF) or those wishing to site within the SRRMDZ have access to a wide variety of economic benefits. Recycled Content Manufacturers are those manufacturers who use non-virgin materials for a portion or all of their manufacturing feedstock (furnish). Recycled content feedstock includes a wide variety of material types such as wood, plastic, paper, agricultural waste, animal waste, green-waste, and already processed goods such as carpet, electronics, tires, construction debris, or other post industrial byproducts.

What are the rewards:

SRRMDZ program staff can assist RCP manufactures with:

  • Locating local recycled content feedstock
  • Identifying and participating in local business incentives (tax credits, LAMBRA, Enterprise Zone, utility reductions/incentives, etc.)
  • Marketing their RCP to State Agencies and other public markets
  • Securing a low interest loan
  • Discovering alternative financing such as loans, grants, and bonds
  • Streamlining permit process, acquisitions, and compliance
  • Locating a site or property for startup or relocation

Where the location is:

The Sacramento Regional Recycling Market Development Zone (SRRMDZ) encompasses all of Sacramento County and the City of West Sacramento’s Enterprise Zone in Yolo County. Cities in Sacramento County include: Rancho Cordova, Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Galt, Isleton, and Sacramento. The zone is over 994 square miles of which more than 42 square miles is zoned industrial.

BERC is the administering agency for the SRRMDZ and is a one-stop, non-regulatory permit assistance center designed to help businesses understand and comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. BERC offers Free & Confidential consultative services for both environmental and non-environmental issues. In addition, BERC provides pollution prevention information to businesses; coordinates an annual Business Awards Program; and offers advocacy efforts that include providing fact sheets, guidance documents, ombudsman/facilitation services, as well as conducting seminars and workshops.
